How To Launch Your Ecommerce Business in 5 Simple Steps

If there’s one thing nobody taught you in school, it’s how to launch your business online. Let’s face it, you’ve done the hard work, you’ve decided which product you want to sell, you figured out their might be a market for it…but what next?!

You might’ve already created a website, awesome! Is it on a sales-based platform? (Oops! Mistake #1).

Hey! My name is Julia and I’ve worked with dozens of businesses, selling their ecommerce products online. Heck, I’ve even tried to create ecommerce stores selling eyeglass cleaners and other knick-knacks and it always started with…WHERE DO I BEGIN!

If that’s where you’re at, I get it. 100%. It can be frustrating, annoying, and you wish there was a simple guide out there that is a “step-by-step” process.  Something like the 5 Simple Steps To Launch Your Business Online? (Woop! I’ve finally created this FREE resource for you!).

So how do I sell these products, and why should you listen to me? Well…over the last 2 years I’ve spent over $15 MILLION dollars on Facebook advertising.

WHOA. What? That’s insane! (I know! I still can’t believe it myself!)

Because I’ve been able to spend so much advertising dollars, I’ve analyzed hundreds of sales websites, funnels, and understand how to optimize websites, landing pages and Facebook ads in order to create the best ROI (return on investment) as possible.

Shall we get started with these 5 “MUST-HAVES” To Launch An Ecommerce Business? Read on… 🙂

1. Setup Your Sales Page

Sales Page? Isn’t a website good enough? NO!

Here’s the thing. I’ve seen this way too many times before with past clients. A lot of business owners complain about why their website isn’t converting visitors into sales. “Maybe this..maybe that!”

But after experiencing this time and time again, I always tell clients, “You need to setup a Landing Page”. This is SUPER important you guys, which is why it is #1 on this list!

A Landing Page is place where you send potential buyers to sell them on your product benefits. It’s the place between your Facebook Ad and your Checkout page.

Here’s where the Cacti Decor comes into play. Let’s say you’re trying to sell Home Decor to a group of Moms. You’re not just going to set up an ad, and send them to your cart page. They will most likely not purchase your product. You need to send them to a Sales Page and start selling them on the BENEFITS about WHY they need these Cacti in their home!

Trust me, I’ve sold a LOT of products and they 100000% work better when you send your potential client to a Sales Page.

My favourite Sales Funnel to use is called ClickFunnels! This is a life saver – especially for anyone who doesn’t know how to code! (Like me!). They make it so easy to drag and drop headlines, text boxes, images and more. Most advertisers who are selling products online love this program, since it’s fast + easy for anyone to use. 2. Setup Your Online Store

Simply put, this is where you’re going to get paid for your products.

An important part of setting up your online business is creating your online store.

This is the fun part! Industry standard for anyone setting up a new store is to use the Shopify platform.

Shopify is awesome because you create your website storefront on it. If you don’t already have a website – this is where you want to make it! There are thousands of Shopify Ecommerce stores because people absolutely love the platform to sell products. It lets you fulfill orders, shows you how many people are visiting your online store in REAL TIME, let’s you create coupon codes and so much more!

Trust me – it’s an amazing place to get your online store started. Many big brands use it because it’s simple to set up!

So if you haven’t already started your online store (or if you have some other sort of website you’re using), you’ll definitely want to make the switch. It’ll make all the difference!

3. Find a Fulfillment Centre

Once you start selling more and more products, you probably aren’t going to be able to keep up locally! Or maybe you’re a Canadian who wants to sell their products in the USA!

This is when Fulfillment Centres become strategically important for your business. A Fulfillment Centre is a place where you can send your inventory to get stored, and every time you make a sale, they’ll be the ones who send your package out!

It’s amazing! A personalized postage company who takes care of your orders! It’s typically a cheaper option for companies who don’t have time to send out orders or don’t live in the country.

After a little research, I’m sure you’ll  find a company that will suit your needs!

4. Setup Facebook Tracking

Facebook advertising! This is one of my favourite parts of launching a business.

It’s what I thrive doing with my creative brain! But BEFORE you can create Facebook ads, you HAVE to set up Pixel Tracking. (If you’re not a techy person, setting up this Pixel tracking might be confusing or difficult, but keep reading!)

So the first step is to setup a Facebook Page for your company. Once you’ve got this done, it’s time to setup your Facebook Pixel. (AHH!! WHAT’S THIS?)

Don’t worry, I’ve got you!

A Pixel is a way to track your purchases, add to carts, website visitors and more. It attaches to your website and it’s a way that Facebook can tell whether or not your ad has been attributed to your sales.

First of all, you need to make sure to create a Facebook Business Manager account. You can do that here: https://business.facebook.com

Once you’ve done this, you’ve got access to the backend of advertising 😉

Once you’ve created an ad account for your business, you will have access to something called “Pixels” in your menu.

Facebook makes it REALLY simple to set up your pixel with Shopify so you’re lucky! Just follow the steps and you should be good to go.

5. Create Facebook Ads!

Woohoo! You’ve done it! You’ve set up your Pixel Tracking on all your websites and you’re ready to create some ads!

There are SO many moving pieces to Facebook. It’s hard to master the art of Facebook advertising, but it’s so encouraging to see results!

I am working in Facebook advertising on the daily, so I know exactly what it takes to create a profitable campaign. It’s difficult, but it’s worth it when you see the money rolling in!

To make effective ads, this is the order of how you should be looking at your campaigns:

  1. Select a campaign objective (do you want lead generation, landing page views, purchases?) Facebook is really good at sending you traffic that you ask it for, so ask for exactly what you need!
  2. Choose your target audience (who do you want to target?)
  3. What’s your budget? You can pick between Lifetime budget and Daily budget
  4. Choose your placements (where do you want your ads to be shown? Desktop, mobile, instagram?)
  5. Then it’s time to create your ad!
  6. Choose a headline, ad text (it goes above your image/video), video, image or carousel style and a call-to-action button
  7. And voila! You’ve created your first ad!

One thing about Facebook, the algorithm is constantly changing daily, so what may work today, might not work tomorrow!

My biggest piece of advice…SPLIT TEST EVERYTHING!

Headlines, ad copy, images, videos, buttons! It’s worth it to try new angles and see what clicks with people in order for the product to sell.
